Egypt .. Launching the "starting signal" to work at the Dabaa nuclear plant soon

The Egyptian authorities issued a permit to Russia's Rosatom Corporation to build the first power unit at the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant, the country's Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority announced on Wednesday.

A request to build the first two of the four reactors was submitted to the department on January 1, 2019.

The Russian company "Rosatom" is implementing the construction of the first nuclear power station in Egypt to generate electric power, and this comes within the framework of an agreement signed between Moscow and Cairo in November 2015.

The first nuclear power plant in the history of Egypt will include four power units with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts, and will operate the advanced Russian nuclear reactors VVER-1200 of the third generation that meet the highest safety standards.

A source at the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy in Egypt said that the issuance of the construction permit for the first and second units of the El-Dabaa nuclear plant means that all necessary procedures to start construction have been completed by the Russian Nuclear Corporation and the Nuclear Power Plants Authority.

The source added, in statements to “Al-Masry Al-Youm” newspaper, today, Wednesday, that he expects to start work intensively during the next few period, as there are plans, contracts, and a new timetable that has been set after being affected by the global conditions for the spread of the Corona pandemic.

The source indicated that soon what is known as the "starting signal" will be launched to work on the project, after the focus during the last period was on the infrastructure of the project land.
