Chinese embassy says Chinese citizen injured in chemical gas leak in Aqaba, Jordan

  The Chinese Embassy in Jordan said on the 28th that Chinese citizens were injured in the gas tank explosion and chemical gas leakage accident in the southern Jordanian port city of Aqaba on the 27th.

  The embassy issued a statement on the 28th saying that the embassy immediately dispatched a working group to Aqaba to coordinate rescue and provide consular protection and assistance.

On the 28th, the working group went to the hospital to visit the injured Chinese compatriots. Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Chen Chuandong expressed condolences to the injured via video link.

The hospital confirmed that the injured Chinese citizen's condition is generally stable.

  The embassy said that it will continue to maintain close communication with Jordanian foreign affairs, public security and other departments and hospitals, and requires Jordan to ensure that Chinese citizens receive timely and good treatment.

The Jordanian side expressed its willingness to actively cooperate and maintain coordination with the Chinese side to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens' lives.

  According to a Jordanian official report on the 28th, the accident has caused 13 deaths and more than 300 injuries.

Emergency work is still ongoing, and the cause of the accident is under further investigation.
