Emmanuel Macron arrived Tuesday, June 28 at the end of the day in Madrid where he participates until Thursday at the NATO summit after the European Council in Brussels and the G7 in Germany, at a time when Russia is increasing the bombardments in Ukraine.

A war that has resurrected the Russian threat and reshuffled the cards for collective security in Europe.

Emmanuel Macron therefore arrives at this summit with the intention of changing " 

the strategic concept

 " of the alliance, he who said in 2019 that NATO was in a state of " 

brain death 

".

The ambition of the Head of State is in particular to have the role of the European Union recognized in Euro-Atlantic security and “ 

complementarity 

” with NATO.

Show the French that he is doing everything to ensure their safety

During this summit, Emmanuel Macron wants, explains the Élysée, that the consequences of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine be drawn, which has called into question the post-Cold War balance and display a united front of the alliance to send a message of firmness to Moscow at a time when deadly bombardments have again struck Ukraine.

Before returning to Paris to settle government affairs, Emmanuel Macron wants to show the French that he is doing everything to ensure their safety.
