The Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi, the organizer of the national competitions for the World Robot Olympiad in the UAE, announced that eight teams have qualified for the World Robot Olympiad finals, which will be hosted by Germany next November.

The announcement follows the conclusion of the national qualifying phase, which took place between 4-6 June and 25 June, with the participation of more than 500 teams.

The department organized the qualifiers under the slogan “My Robot is My Friend.” This year’s edition witnessed the participation of students aged between 8 and 19 years.

The local qualifiers witnessed the participation of more than 1,800 students, who formed 512 teams, including 402 teams from public and private schools, 34 teams from Al Sharakat Educational Schools in Abu Dhabi, and 76 teams from other institutions, such as universities and training centers.

The evaluation of the projects of the participating teams was supervised by a judging team that included 83 members of experts, and the arbitration process concluded by selecting the winning teams that will participate in the World Robot Olympiad finals against the qualified teams from more than 85 countries, in the categories: (Robot Missions, Future Innovators, Future Engineers, and sports robot).

The teams’ participation was divided into several sectors, including health care, emergency response, environmentally friendly transportation, and self-driving cars, within the first three main categories: mission robots, future innovators, and future engineers, whose competitions were organized by default.
