Apple AirTag, a high-tech tracker for Apple products

AirTag is Apple's answer to the category of trackers and we could obviously expect the brand to integrate closely with its environment.

This is the case and with an iPhone 11, 12 or 13, AirTag takes advantage of compatibility with UWB (Ultra Wide Band) technology to find its object with great precision: just follow the arrow to arrive exactly at the where he is.

Compatible with the iOS built-in Locate app, the AirTag leverages a huge network of compatible devices to locate a lost item.

A solution cut for the iPhone even if it is more restrictive and less affordable than others.

What is a tracker?

A tracker is a small accessory, generally thought to be attached to a key ring or luggage.

It contains a chip that allows it to be located via an application.

A tracker can use several technologies, and some mobilize a combination of these.

It can for example integrate a GPS chip, which will allow it to be located via its coordinates, from anywhere, provided of course that it is available because a GPS tracker can consume its battery relatively quickly.

Trackers using Bluetooth technology are more autonomous, but dependent on the range of the technology.

Concretely, if we are within range of the tracker, we can locate it directly.

If this is not the case, it is then the network of users of the same application which will possibly allow it to be located.

Finally, some trackers use UWB (Ultrawide Band) technology which allows very high precision in the location when the object is within range.

A tracker can emit a sound or a notification via the application associated with it.

It can also work in the opposite direction if it is equipped with a button that allows you to ring the smartphone if it is the latter that cannot be found.

What is the range of a tracker?

Trackers can vary markedly in their range.

In the case of a GPS tracker, for example, this notion is relative: if a satellite is able to see it, we can be alerted even thousands of kilometers away.

For a Bluetooth tracker, manufacturers often announce a range between 60 and 120m, beyond which it will be necessary to refer to the network of tracker users to locate it.
