The presidential majority seeks support in the National Assembly, for lack of an absolute majority following the legislative elections.

The party of Emmanuel Macron is however "agree on the essentials" with the deputies Les Républicains, whose "group is the least distant from us", estimated this Tuesday Gérald Darmanin.

"We agree on security, we agree on public finances and the economy, on the purchasing power of our fellow citizens, so that there are tax cuts", listed on RTL the Minister of the Interior.

Laws targeting thugs and immigrants

By way of example, Gérald Darmanin cited his proposal, provided for in the future orientation and programming law of the Ministry of the Interior (Lopmi), "to expel or withdraw the residence permits of any foreigner guilty of “a crime or a misdemeanor” and that of the anti-breakers law defended by the leader of the senators LR Bruno Retailleau.

LR boss Christian Jacob refuted last week “any logic of a pact” but assured that his party would “never” be in “the blocking of institutions”.

A position contested by the former minister Jean-François Copé, in favor of a “government pact”, or Catherine Vautrin, who said “why not” to the idea of “grand coalition” proposed by the ex-Premier Minister Edouard Philippe, whose Horizons party is a member of the majority.

“The French are happy”

The former LR also repeated the line of President Emmanuel Macron: the majority “is not intended to govern with the National Rally” nor with rebellious France.

Faced with the breakthrough of these two groups during the legislative elections, Gérald Darmanin considered that “this National Assembly is more in line with the opinions of the French”.

“The French are happy with these elections, with the balance of power (…) They obviously wanted us to get along (…) they did not want us to govern alone”, he added. .

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne continued her negotiations on Tuesday with the presidents of groups in the Assembly.
