Erdogan on Sweden and Finland's accession to NATO: We do not want "empty talk"

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Tuesday that he was waiting for "results, not empty talk" from Sweden and Finland in Madrid, where a NATO summit is being held, which the two northern European countries want to join.

"Today we will meet with the Prime Minister of Sweden, the President of Finland and the Secretary General of NATO. We will see how far they can go," said Erdogan, who has opposed their accession since mid-May.

Yesterday, Monday, Erdogan said: "Tomorrow we will go to the NATO summit in Spain and we will do everything necessary in accordance with the rights and interests of our country," according to government sources.

Leaders of the 30-member defense alliance are meeting in the Spanish capital to adopt a new strategic outlook and agree on plans to strengthen NATO's eastern flank in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
