China News Service, Nanning, June 28 (Reporter Huang Yanmei and Yang Zhixiong) Liu Huanxin, director of China's National Rural Revitalization Bureau, said in Nanning on the 28th that China is willing to work with ASEAN countries to reduce poverty, seek development, benefit people's livelihood, increase well-being, and jointly build Prosperous home.

China will work with relevant countries to design and implement the "East Asia Poverty Reduction Cooperation Initiative Phase II" project, and jointly explore and accumulate more practical cooperation experience.

  The 16th China-ASEAN Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction opened on the same day in Nanning, Guangxi.

Government officials, experts, scholars, and business representatives from China and 10 ASEAN countries conducted in-depth discussions on the theme of "Strengthening Poverty Alleviation Exchanges and Building a Prosperous Homeland", and shared their experiences in poverty governance and rural development.

  The forum is co-hosted by the National Rural Development Bureau of China and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with the support of the ASEAN Secretariat, the United Nations Development Programme, the China International Economic and Technological Exchange Center and other institutions.

The forum is held in the form of a combination of online and offline.

  Liu Huanxin said at the meeting that getting rid of poverty has always been a prominent problem plaguing global development and governance.

China is the largest developing country in the world, and has always been an active advocate and strong promoter of the cause of poverty reduction in the world.

China won the battle against poverty as scheduled in 2020, completed the arduous task of eradicating absolute poverty, and achieved the poverty reduction goal of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule.

In 2021, China will achieve a smooth transition between the consolidation and expansion of poverty alleviation achievements and the effective connection between rural revitalization.

  Liu Huanxin said that China and ASEAN are geographically close, culturally connected, and share a common destiny. The friendly relations have a long history.

The China-ASEAN Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction, held since 2007, has become an important dialogue mechanism in the region.

The National Rural Development Bureau of China will continue to run the forum well, give full play to the role of Guangxi as a major international channel for ASEAN, and promote continuous and in-depth exchanges and interactions.

  Liu Huanxin said that China is willing to work with ASEAN countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, and relevant United Nations agencies to build a global partnership for poverty reduction and development; and will carry out in-depth village-level poverty reduction projects implemented in 6 impoverished villages in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. In conclusion, on this basis, we will work with relevant countries to design and implement the "East Asia Poverty Reduction Cooperation Initiative Phase II" project.

  In addition, the National Rural Development Bureau of China will organize the establishment of the "China-ASEAN Poverty Reduction Expert Bank", which will bring together new concepts, new ideas and practices in promoting poverty reduction and rural development in various countries and fields, and improve the level of knowledge sharing.

  At the meeting, officials from relevant institutions in ASEAN countries expressed their desire to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China in the fields of poverty reduction and rural development.

  "China's success in poverty eradication will provide a useful reference for Myanmar to achieve sustainable rural development and poverty eradication goals." Ramo, Minister of Cooperation and Rural Development of Myanmar, said that thanks to the financial and technical assistance provided by the Chinese government, Myanmar has successfully implemented a pilot project for poverty alleviation cooperation in 2021.

Currently, under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund, Myanmar will implement the second phase of the poverty alleviation cooperation project, as well as rural water supply, rural electrification and other projects.
