11 steps to obtain a new driving license or add a category to a license issued by Dubai

You can apply to the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai to obtain a new driving license in the Emirate of Dubai, or to add a category to the current driving license issued by Dubai, by following a set of procedures and passing the required examinations.

The conditions regulating the issuance of driving licenses stipulate that the license is issued by Dubai if the customer’s file is in the Emirate of Dubai, even if there is a change in the place of residence after passing the road test, but the license cannot be issued after passing the road test in the event that a year has passed or more to pass the examination.

The following are the procedures followed to issue a new license or add an item to the current license issued by Dubai:

 The customer submits a request to obtain the service through the website of the Roads and

Transport Authority in Dubai using a valid Emirates ID.

 The identity of the customer is verified by sending the verification code to the phone number registered in the system (OTP).

 If the customer is a holder of previous licenses, he must submit a front and back copy of the previous driver's license.

 The Driving Institute communicates with the customer and agrees with him regarding the

required training package.

 The customer pays the fees at the institute to complete the procedures for obtaining the service and start training.

 The electronic contract is signed via the RTA website.

 The customer undergoes an eye test at one of the eye examination centers approved by the Roads and Transport Authority.

 Obtain a digital learning permit via SMS and email to start training.

 After completing the training requirements for each stage, the customer books an appointment for the

scheduled examination, knowledge, yard or road.

 Pay the required fees after passing all the prescribed examinations.

 The new driver's license is issued digitally upon payment of all fees. The driver receives it via e-mail and enables him to drive for a period of 7 days until

the printed copy is issued by the authority's service centers.
