On the thresholds of the road starting from the city of Jericho on the Palestinian-Jordanian border, and the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank, where the northern Palestinian Jordan Valley areas extend, the residents are torn apart, just as the occupation isolated them from their stolen lands, and those threatened with confiscation, where the Al-Wad al-Ahmar camp is located, belonging to The Israeli army covers an area of 10 km from the Jordan Valley.

The Red Valley, which before 1967 was a stronghold for the Jordanian army, is not the only one who gnaws at Palestinian lands in the Jordan Valley, after controlling it in 2015 and turning it into a military site in 2017, targeting those whose land was robbed for the sake of residence, the occupation surrounded it with parks and resorts Tourist and military facilities, and the “Gilgal” settlement outpost, which threatens the remaining lands in the Jordan Valley with looting and confiscation, in order to expand the limits of its influence.

Strengthening the settlement presence

The military site is located on the outskirts of the villages of “Fasayel” and “Al-Auja” in the north of Jericho Governorate, in the northern Jordan Valley, next to the “Hariz Dam” plain, where it devours the residents’ property for the benefit of the occupation plans, which claims that these lands are classified as Area C according to the Oslo Agreement. And it is under his administration, according to the head of the local council of Fasayel village.

Abayat points out that despite the military occupation’s control of large areas of dunams of the Jordan Valley, especially the villages of Fasayel and Al-Auja, the occupation forces prohibit their access to their lands near the Al-Wad Al-Ahmar camp, which is under the protection of the Israeli occupation army and police, and the so-called Regional Council of Settlements.

He points out that the occupation authorities have set up several settlement tourism facilities and projects in the vicinity of the memorial park for the martyrs of the Jordanian army, the Palestinian guerrillas, including the “statue path” inside the Jordan Valley areas.

Abayat explains that the paths of the settlement statues, starting from Al-Wad Al-Ahmar camp towards the villages of the Jordan Valley, contain paintings that embody the heritage and identity of the colonized land from the point of view of the occupation.

The head of the Fasayel village council says: “In recent years, in order to strengthen the Israeli presence and bring large numbers of settlers into the lands of the Jordan Valley villages, the occupation has organized 16 ecological paths, within the Jordan Valley area in the town of Aqraba, south of Nablus, as well as along the Red Valley course in (Fasayel). ), which bore his name on the military site.

big risks

Since 1967, the occupation authorities have robbed thousands of dunums of Palestinian lands in the Jericho Governorate and the Jordan Valley to establish military bases in them, in order to tighten the military grip on the governorate, and to serve and protect settlers while they were traveling on the bypass roads and streets.

In his interview with "Emirates Today", Moataz Bisharat, the official in charge of the Jordan Valley file in Tubas Governorate, said: "The dangers of military sites, especially (Al-Wad al-Ahmar), are represented in the dangerous military exercises organized by the occupation forces throughout the year, in villages and areas. The Jordan Valley, and between the homes and tents of the Palestinian residents.”

Bisharat continues: “The dangers of military sites continue in the Israeli forces distributing decisions to evacuate the Palestinian residents from their homes and tents, before starting maneuvers, in which live ammunition is used, and which fall within the list of repressive practices used by the occupation to displace the residents of the Jordan Valley, and rob their remaining lands.”

The dangers of the military maneuvers increase after their conclusion, as a result of the live ammunition, bombs, shells and mines left behind, according to Bisharat.

The number of Israeli army camps within the lands of the Jordan Valley is 11 camps, most of which are located in the Jericho Governorate, and the rest separate it from the city of Nablus and cities in the northern West Bank, and the city of Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
