Self-immobilization has become a habit of environmental activism.

Roland-Garros had seen its semi-final interrupted by a 22-year-old young woman, her neck tied to the net, with the inscription on her t-shirt "we have 1028 days left" (we have 1028 days left).

On June 11, activists from the group “Last Renovation” stuck their hands in the asphalt to prevent traffic on a Parisian axis, demanding the renovation of the French housing stock.

This Monday, rebelote.

Among the activists from Youth for Climate, Extinction Rebellion or 350.org gathered outside the IMF building, some stuck their hands to the doors of the building, while others chained themselves to each other using tubes .

Ecological debt

On the occasion of the G7 organized in Germany, these activists demand "the cancellation of the debt of the countries of the South", so that they can face the climate crisis.

"G7 responsible, IMF guilty, let's cancel the debt for a livable planet", read a banner deployed in front of the building.

"We must give these countries the means to fight the climate crisis, they are the first victims and the last responsible", launched "Chalou", an activist from Extinction Rebellion, while her comrades threw counterfeit notes marked " Stop fossil fuels”.

“The recognition of an ecological debt by the richest countries is a fundamental requirement.

This ecological debt comes from the responsibility of the richest countries in climate change,” they added.

The Paris agreements, decried for their lack of application, already encourage developed countries to support the efforts of developing countries.

Today, it is the debts of the “countries of the South” that are attacked, as a burden that would prevent them from investing responsibly.
