According to the newspaper Hürriyet, Ankara requested written guarantees from Finland and Sweden to resolve the differences before these countries join NATO.

The demands of the Turkish side were allegedly made because of the support by Finland and Sweden of organizations recognized as terrorist in Turkey.

According to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, the documents received from Sweden and Finland are "far from Ankara's expectations".

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said that Finland is unlikely to become a NATO member before September because of Turkey.
