One dead, 5 injured in knife attack on asylum seekers' shelter in Germany

An attacker stabbed several people with a knife inside a shelter for asylum seekers in southern Germany, killing a man and wounding at least five others, dpa reported Monday.

The agency reported that the attacker, who was reported to be a resident of the shelter, knocked on the doors of the rooms of the building - located in the town of Kresbronn on Lake Constance, and when the residents opened the doors, proceeded to stab them.

A man died of his injuries immediately, and five other injured were taken to a hospital by ambulance, one of whom was critically injured.


It was not clear if others were injured.

Police detained a man, whose name was not given in keeping with German privacy policy, in front of the asylum seekers' shelter.

Forensic experts were at the scene Monday morning to investigate.
