China News Service, June 27 (Reporter Meng Xiangjun Peng Dawei) The BRICS cooperation mechanism has gone through 16 years.

Over the years, the BRICS countries have cooperated in dozens of fields such as economy, trade, finance, science and technology, industry and agriculture, culture and education, health care, and think tanks. The cooperation mechanism has been continuously improved and the cooperation areas have continued to deepen.

"The BRICS countries are considered to be one of the most important multilateral frameworks in the world." Recently, when talking about the BRICS countries, Bo Xiwen, a German expert on China issues and former director of the European and International Affairs Department of Hesse, Germany, told Chinanews.com reporter said.

Bo Xiwen further pointed out that as the five BRICS countries, China, Russia, Brazil, India and South Africa have a combined population of more than 3 billion, accounting for 42% of the global population.

In terms of contribution to the world economy, the BRICS countries generate more than a quarter of the world's total economic output and account for about 20% of global trade.

Joseph Gregory Mahoney, associate editor of the American Journal of Chinese Political Science and professor at the School of Politics and International Relations at East China Normal University, said in an in-depth analysis that, in general, the BRICS mechanism has two important achievements:

First, the BRICS countries bring together the world's most important group of emerging market countries, and this group is usually ignored by international organizations that focus on catering to the most developed and least developed countries.

Moreover, emerging market countries are often seen as competitors by the most developed countries, and developed countries sometimes resort to measures aimed at preventing emerging market countries from reaching a higher stage of development.

Therefore, it is crucial to establish such a mechanism of "mutual support and recognition" among emerging market countries.

Second, Mahoney believes that the BRICS countries have established a foreign policy principle of mutual benefit, equality and non-interference.

Instead of forming formal or informal alliances, or "small blocs", the BRICS countries take a long-term view and persistently work on issues that contribute to the overall improvement of relations between member states, providing opportunities for constructive cooperation , he pointed out.

In addition, Mahoney noted that some of the specific achievements of the BRICS countries include, through mutual support and assistance to the vast number of developing countries, the recovery of these countries from the new crown epidemic has been promoted, etc.

Bo Xiwen pointed out that at the 14th BRICS leaders' meeting held in Beijing recently, the joint statement issued by the countries called for respect for democracy in global governance and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation.

In Bo Xiwen's view, the BRICS countries are like a "cooperative community focused on a common future", and the Potomac Policy Institute (Reporter's Note: Founded in 1994, the Potomac Policy Institute is a non-profit public The "toxic strategy" represented by policy research institutions, which operate in accordance with the US "Internal Revenue Code", is completely different.

The BRICS mechanism does not involve the so-called "sanctions and decoupling".

He pointed out that the BRICS countries have always been on the road of stability and mutual cooperation.

Therefore, this mechanism is attractive to many emerging countries.
