“Moldova received the status of a candidate for EU membership not for economic support, but in order to be drawn into the geopolitical games of the West against Russia,” he wrote on Telegram.

Dodon added that the hasty admission to the EU candidates means that Moldova will be assigned "the role of a pawn on the geopolitical board of the West."

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Moldova Nikolai Popescu said that the republic cannot fully join the sanctions against Russia due to the weak national economy.
