"In agreement with the United States, Britain and Japan, the Prime Minister announced Canada's intention to impose a ban on imports of certain gold items from Russia, shutting the commodity out of official international markets and further isolating Russia from the international financial system," the statement reads. .  

The Canadian side also imposes a ban on the export to Russia of a number of advanced technologies, including quantum computers and industrial equipment.

Earlier, the British authorities said that the UK, US, Canada and Japan will impose a ban on the import of gold from Russia.

US President Joe Biden confirmed the intention to introduce new restrictions.

The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, also said that the EU is ready to study the possible introduction of a ban on the import of Russian gold, provided that the sanctions do not harm the union's economy.
