A 31-year-old asylum seeker from Nigeria killed a 38-year-old asylum seeker from Syria in a municipal refugee shelter in Kressbronn in the Lake Constance district on Sunday evening.

The man injured five other asylum seekers, some seriously.

The alleged perpetrator, who is apparently mentally ill, is said to have threatened several roommates with a machete on May 10 and rioted in the accommodation.

After this incident, the man is said to have been treated in a psychiatric clinic, but after his release he is said to have returned to the refugee accommodation.

Apparently, the doctors treating her did not consider it necessary to place her in a closed psychiatric ward.

According to the police, there was no reason in May to take the man into custody.

In the refugee accommodations, the immigration authorities are repeatedly faced with the question of how to deal with asylum seekers who are mentally and to a lesser extent criminally conspicuous.

Relocation is often not possible.

Actually, the municipal special staff for dangerous foreigners set up a few years ago should register such cases early and then intervene.

Eyewitnesses reported to the newspaper "Südkurier" that many residents had been afraid of the alleged perpetrator for a long time.

On Sunday evening he is said to have threatened several roommates with a show of hands that they would cut their throats.

On Monday it was still unclear whether the accommodation in Kressbronn was provisional accommodation under district authority or follow-up accommodation under the supervision of the municipality.
