▲ Smoke rises from a missile fired by the Russian military in the Ukrainian capital of Kiiu

The Russian military launched missile strikes in the Ukrainian capital, Kiiu, ahead of the G7 summit.

It is the first time in three weeks that Russia has launched a missile attack in downtown Kiiu.

On the 25th and 26th local time, Russia is known to have bombed Kiiu, northern cities such as Chernivu and Sumi, and the west such as Lviv. It flew into 9-story apartments and kindergarten buildings, such as the central Shevchenko district.

Local police said one person was killed and at least five injured in the attack.

Kiiu Mayor Vitali Klicichko said, "It's only been three weeks since the Russian military bombed Kiiu, and the purpose is to intimidate Ukrainians ahead of the NATO (NATO) summit."

US President Joe Biden, who attended the G7 summit in Elmau, Bavaria, Germany, denounced the Russian bombing of Kiiu as "close to barbarism" when asked by reporters.
