Israel sent a message to the European Union to express its disappointment with attempts to revive the nuclear agreement negotiations with Iran, and declared that the Iranian threat is the most important to its security, amid news of the possibility of resuming negotiations in one of the Gulf states.

The first Israeli channel said that the European Union's foreign affairs coordinator, Josep Borrell, sent a text message by phone to Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, in which he said that he was going to save the nuclear agreement.

The channel added, quoting officials, that Lapid responded by saying that this is frustrating, and that returning to negotiations with Tehran is a grave mistake, especially in light of Iranian attempts to target Israelis in Turkey, as he put it.

Biggest Threat

On the other hand, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said that the defense establishment deals with what he described as the Iranian threat as the most important and urgent strategic issue for Israel's security at the present time.

Gantz added in a tweet on Twitter that although the Israeli security services have a say in the policy toward Iran, "the government makes the decisions."

Gantz also said that they are continuing the open and deep dialogue in closed rooms only, and that any other method harms the security of the State of Israel, as he put it.

Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported on Friday that leaders of military intelligence and strategic planning believe that reviving the 2015 nuclear deal would give Israel time to prepare for an attack that would deprive Iran of the means to build nuclear weapons.

The best candidate diameter

An Iranian official told Al Jazeera on Sunday that it is possible to resume negotiations to revive the nuclear agreement in one of the Gulf countries instead of Vienna, noting that Qatar has the greatest luck and all possibilities to embrace the negotiations.

He said that Israel's targeting of Iran's peaceful nuclear program has become intolerable, pointing out that his country will not stand by and watch Israel's terrorism against it, as he put it.

On Saturday, Josep Borrell announced the resumption of negotiations "in the coming days", stressing the need to reach an agreement, because it is a matter "of the utmost importance for the whole world."

He added - during a joint press conference he held with Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian in Tehran - that there are decisions that must be taken in Tehran and Washington regarding the negotiations.

As for Abdullahian, he called on Washington to take serious measures to reach an agreement.
