“While some members of the committee expressed differing views, the committee decided by consensus to inform the Director-General of WHO that at this stage it should be determined that the outbreak is not a PHEIC (Emergency of International Concern),” the WHO said in a statement.

At the same time, the committee unanimously recognized the "extraordinary nature" of the monkeypox outbreak.

As previously reported by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as of June 23, more than 3.2 thousand monkeys infected with smallpox were recorded in the world.

Monkeypox has officially been declared a pandemic, according to the World Health Network.
