Happy restaurant guests charged ahead of Saturday's pride in Oslo.

But a few minutes after 1 o'clock, the clatter and roar of the gay club London Pub and the other outdoor cafes were replaced by panicked screams.

One of those who was on the lively pub street was the NRK journalist Olav Rønneberg.

He was on his way to one of the taverns when he saw a man putting down a bag on the street.

Then the man picked out what looked like a firearm.

- At first I thought it was an air weapon, maybe even that someone wants to joke, Rønneberg tells NRK.

- But I understood that it was serious when the glasses at the place next door were broken.

Then I realized that it was sharp shots.

"Ran in all directions"

Then panic broke out.

- People ran in all directions.

I heard several shots being fired, says Olav Rønneberg.

At an outdoor cafe, Petter Høines sat with a friend.

He describes to the Norwegian newspaper VG how he heard bangs.

He himself survived unscathed.

But his friend was one of those who lost his life in the act.

- I would not have been sitting here today if he had not been sitting in front of me, says Petter Høines.

The perpetrator was wrestled down

Marcus Nybakken was at a bar nearby and heard the shots.

When he came out on the street, he was met by chaotic scenes.

- There are injured people who scream, people who are upset and very, very scared.

Just a few minutes after the shots began to blow at the pub street, the man was arrested.

Videos from the incident show how the shooter is overpowered by passing private individuals.

At the same time, the police arrive, five minutes after the first alarm calls came.

When the suspect is handcuffed, someone walks by and points a finger at him.

He is then taken away in a police car.

Empty sleeves, broken glass and blood stains remain on the street.

Two men have at least one life and another 20 or so people are injured.
