Tänak (Hyundai) stopped less than a kilometer from the finish of the 10th special, the 3rd disputed on Saturday which has a total of six before six others on Sunday, the last day of the event.
The Estonian driver started a game of mechanics, lying under the front right of his car while the other competitors passed at full speed a few meters from his immobilized car.
No information has yet been communicated on its ability to continue the rally, which began on Thursday.
He occupied, before his stop, the 4th place in the provisional general classification of the race.
The 10th special was won by the Belgian Thierry Neuville, also on Hyundai, who had also won SS9 earlier in the morning, the Briton Elfyn Evans (Toyota) winning the 8th.
Overall, Rovanperä now leads Evans by 19.4 seconds, the Japanese Takamoto Katsuta by 39.9 seconds, all three on Toyota.
Neuville is 4th at 47.3 seconds ahead of Frenchman Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) at 2 min 20 sec.
