On Friday, the news came that the US Supreme Court has overturned the nearly 50-year-old verdict "Roe against Wade".

Americans no longer have the obvious right to free abortion - something that was celebrated with cheers and cheers from many of the population who supported the repeal.

On Saturday, however, anger was aroused in many other Americans who, since the decision was made, have gathered in large protests around the country.

In New York, the streets were filled with thousands of protesters shouting that they wanted to "keep the right to their own bodies."

Similar protests have taken place in several other cities such as Sacramento, Seattle, Boston and Denver.

Dispels protesters with tear gas

In the state of Arizona, the protesters were met by police who used tear gas to disperse the crowds.

"Troops used tear gas to disperse a gathering of protesters who started knocking on the glass doors of the local Senate building," said Bart Graves, a Arizona police spokesman.

More protests are expected around the country in the coming days.
