Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin's Remarks on China's Emergency Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan Earthquake

Q: We have learned that after the earthquake in Afghanistan, the Chinese government promised to provide Afghanistan with a batch of emergency humanitarian aid, which will be specially used to help Afghanistan fight the earthquake.

A: The June 22 earthquake was the worst earthquake in Afghanistan in more than 20 years. It has killed at least 1,500 people, injured more than 2,000 people, and destroyed more than 3,000 houses. The number of casualties is still rising.

After the earthquake, the Chinese government decided to provide 50 million yuan of emergency humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, including tents, towels, folding beds and other materials urgently needed by the Afghan victims.

In the next step, China will closely coordinate with the Afghan interim government to ensure that relief materials are delivered to the victims as soon as possible, so as to help the Afghan people overcome the current difficulties.

"Disasters are ruthless and people are affectionate."

We firmly believe that with the concerted efforts of the Afghan interim government and all walks of life, and the joint help of the international community, the people in the disaster-stricken areas will be able to overcome difficulties at an early date, speed up the reconstruction of their homes, and resume normal production and life.
