UK PM speaks after Conservative by-election defeat, blames cost of living crisis for defeat
On June 24, local time, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was attending the Commonwealth meeting in Rwanda, spoke at a press conference.
He insisted that the supply chain crisis and the cost of living crisis triggered by the Russia-Ukraine conflict were the reasons for the Conservatives' by-election defeat.
Johnson said times were tough but the government had the right plans to deal with the situation.
When asked if he was considering resigning, Johnson sidestepped the question.
Earlier in the day, Britain's ruling Conservative Party lost to Labour and the Liberal Democrats in two regional by-elections, triggering the resignation of the Conservative Party chairman and calls from some inside and outside the party for Johnson to step down.
