Hundreds of spectators had gathered in a boiling and sunny Bottnaryd on Saturday afternoon to follow the men's discus competition.

- It is fantastic to compete here, all officials who are fighting for this competition to be carried out and a wonderful audience, says Daniel Ståhl to SVT News.

Daniel Ståhl's personal best and the current Swedish record in discus of 71.86 was set in Bottnarydskastet 2019. A record he was just over 2.5 meters away from when he won the competition at 69.22.

"Feels idyllic"

The competition started much smarter for Olympic runner-up Simon Pettersson with several invalid throws before he set his final result for the day at 62.93 and thus finished two in the competition.

He also praised the framing in Bottnaryd.

- This competition is a highlight of the season.

I myself am from a small place and to be able to come here and compete in a small arena like this feels idyllic.

It is a winning concept to keep this competition alive, says Simon Pettersson.
