The Supreme Court of the United States overturned this Friday the famous judgment Roe v Wade which protected the right to abortion in the United States.

In New York, women took to the streets to scream in anger and amazement.

Europe 1 went to meet them.

REPORTAGE

In a historic U-turn, the ultra-conservative U.S. Supreme Court on Friday buried a ruling that for nearly half a century had guaranteed American women's right to abortion but had never been accepted by the right. religious.

This decision does not make pregnancy terminations illegal, but returns the United States to the situation in force before the emblematic "Roe v. Wade" judgment of 1973, when each state was free to authorize them or not.

Given the fractures in the country, half of the states, especially in the more conservative and religious south and center, could quickly banish them.

In New York, there is no question of going back on the right to abortion.

It's time for anger and amazement to invade the inhabitants of the Big Apple.

Europe 1 went to meet them.

“I never thought I would have to fight the same fight as my grandmother”

Around New York University, in the heart of Manhattan, the shock is hard to take.

"I am sad and angry. I never thought I would have to fight the same fight as my grandmother. But I am fighting for those who will one day turn 20 and for my future children," explains Sophia, 20, at the microphone of Europe 1.

Like all Americans, Rachel expected this decision.

The woman holds a "My body, my choice in hand" sign.

She is very bitter towards the Supreme Court.

“We are told that states cannot make decisions about carrying weapons, but they can decide if we have the right to carry a baby. It is hypocritical, so political, they have no code moral. This court does not work as it should to protect the rights of Americans, "she explains.

"We will find a solution"

So everyone knows that the right to abortion remains guaranteed in New York, but this will no longer be the case in nearly half of the country.

Like in Texas where Anna was born and raised: "It's scary to think that at home, I won't have access to the same care as in New York. It really makes me want to live where I could receive the care I need. Abortion is a health issue," she says.

And then, these thousands of people gathered, it's also a way to keep hope.

"We have no choice, we will find a solution," says Jackie, who came to the rally with her two young daughters.
