The Tunisian Ministry of the Interior announces the disclosure of a plot targeting President Kais Saied

The Tunisian Ministry of the Interior announced on Friday the unveiling of a scheme "targeting" President Kais Saied, in which "internal and external parties" are involved in undermining public security in the country, which is going through a severe political crisis.

"According to confirmed information and ongoing investigations... the President of the Republic and the institution of the presidency are being targeted by serious threats," said Fadela Al-Khulaifi, the official spokeswoman for the Ministry of Interior, in a press conference on Friday.

"There is a scheme in which internal and external parties are involved targeting the president's security" and to undermine public security in the country, Al-Khulaifi added.

The official did not provide more details regarding the parties accused of preparing the plot.

The country is preparing for a popular referendum on July 25 on a constitutional amendment.
