A 25-year-old man was placed in pre-trial detention for thefts committed in mosques in the Lyon metropolitan area.

He was to be presented to the Lyon prosecutor's office on Wednesday for a judgment in immediate appearance, but the case was postponed in August, the time of a psychiatric expertise, reports

Le Progrès.

On June 9, during the night, the man had tried to break into a mosque in the 1st arrondissement of Lyon.

He had left empty-handed.

A few days later, on June 14, he did it again in a mosque in Caluire-et-Cuire, taking with him several thousand euros in donations.

Caught up by CCTV

The victims had filed a complaint and an investigation entrusted to the Rhône police.

Thanks to CCTV footage, the thief had been clearly identified and arrested at his home on June 21.

The search had made it possible to find the clothes he was wearing at the time of the events.

Placed in police custody, the suspect, unfavorably known to the police for similar crimes, had recognized the thefts, while minimizing the sum stolen.
