This statement was published by a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the completion of the first Conference of the States Parties (CSP) of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)

“The statements made on the eve of the KSU in the context of the Ukrainian conflict regarding “mutual threats to use nuclear weapons”, as well as individual statements from the conference rostrum about Russia’s alleged “nuclear blackmail”, cannot but cause bewilderment.

Zakharova recalled that Russian approaches are based solely on the logic of deterrence, including in the current conditions.

As Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov emphasized earlier, Russia denies the very ideology of using nuclear weapons.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also noted that the country is not playing with the topic of nuclear war.

The inadmissibility of nuclear war is Russia's principled position.
