It was packed at MDU on Thursday when the Swedish-American astronaut Jessica Meir, who in 2019 became the first Swedish woman in space, gave an open lecture.

Jessica Meir has dual citizenship (Swedish and American) and is born in Västerås on the side of mother Ulla-Britt.

"Imagined it would look like the earth had been wiped out"

- It was quite strange to get reports about the earth during the covid pandemic.

We were three people in space who had not been infected by covid and we imagined that it would look like the earth had been wiped out and that we were the only survivors when we returned, as in a bad movie.

We were glad it was not so, Jessica Meir said.

Got a frisbee

Linnea Heinemann and Lisa Engström, who are young observers from MYON, handed over a photo taken at the Åkesta Observatory to Jessica Meir and received a gift - a frisbee that has been in space.
