Time flies, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is about to usher in the 25th anniversary of the handover.

Hong Kong youth born in or after 1997 are a generation that grew up with the establishment and development of the SAR.

They have each experienced different lives, and now they are either just entering the society or are still studying, but they are both the future masters of the SAR.

A reporter from China News Agency recently interviewed several "post-97" Hong Kong youth to listen to them looking back on the past and looking forward to the future.

Proud to be born in 1997

Born in 1997, Huang Qilin, who is now an assistant to the investment director of an import and export trading company, is a native Hong Kong girl.

"I am very proud to be born in this important year." Huang Qilin said, because the return marks the resumption of the Chinese government's exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong.

On the anniversary of her return in the past, she would always watch the flag-raising ceremony with her family on TV at home.

In her freshman year, Huang Qilin participated in the Beijing exchange group. This was her first time in the mainland. Since then, she has actively joined youth organizations and participated in youth work and social services.

In the third year of her junior year, there was a "revision storm" in Hong Kong. She felt very sad and sad that some classmates were affected by biased remarks.

"We must remember that 'one country' is the premise and foundation of 'two systems', and Hong Kong is an inalienable part of China." Huang Qilin said that elections in no place or country in the world are acceptable to deliberately damage the well-being of citizens, or even Acts that collude with external forces and endanger national security.

Fortunately, the promulgation and implementation of the National Security Law for Hong Kong and the improvement of the electoral system have given Hong Kong the opportunity to open a new era of construction.

Looking back on the road Hong Kong has traveled in the past, Huang Qilin concluded: Although Hong Kong people have gone through highs and lows and experienced ups and downs, with perseverance and hard work, with love and tolerance, they have always "laught more than sighs".

Hope Hong Kong people "easy to go upstairs"

Zhong Chushun, who was also born in 1997 but stepped into social work after graduating from middle school, is a courier with relatively free working hours.

The anniversary of the return is a day of celebration for him, but in previous years, he spent most of this day at work.

In the past two summers, he wore a mask to deliver goods. He felt that the work was hard, and he would change three or four masks every day because of sweating.

For the job, he said, being treated politely by guests "is just fine."

"The whole society has made progress since the return of Hong Kong." In Zhong Chushun's eyes, the future development of his logistics and transportation industry is improving. With the rise of online shopping, after the arrival of ingredients and daily necessities in Hong Kong, there is always a need for home delivery.

Under the new crown epidemic, Zhong Chushun once tried the situation that the building where the guest lived was undergoing "forced inspection", so the goods could not be delivered.

He hopes that the epidemic will dissipate as soon as possible, so that Hong Kong people have the opportunity to travel and relax.

In the longer term, he hopes that wages of wage earners will catch up with inflation, and that Hong Kong people will be able to "easily go upstairs (easy to buy a house)."

Contribute to society professionally

Born in 2002, Li Zhaojun is a student studying at Lancaster University in the UK.

"The 25th anniversary of the return of the motherland is of great significance, commemoration and representation." After returning to Hong Kong for the summer vacation, he was going to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center to visit the photo exhibition celebrating the return of the motherland.

Li Zhaojun, a law major, said: "I have full confidence in Hong Kong's judicial system and legal environment." He said that Hong Kong's Basic Law guarantees Hong Kong's judicial independence, and Hong Kong's rule of law ranks very high in the world and is widely recognized.

He believes that this advantage will continue to exist in the future.

In his eyes, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Bar Examination provides another way out for Hong Kong law graduates, and should seize this opportunity.

By studying history, Li Zhaojun believes that after the handover, Hong Kong people's right to speak and the opportunity to participate in political affairs have increased.

"This is a big change in politics." He said that the opinions of Hong Kong people can be respected and accepted.

At the same time, he observed that many new infrastructures have been built in Hong Kong after the handover.

Still in the "ivory tower", he wishes his peers to learn more about the development of the mainland, and to use his professionalism to contribute to Hong Kong and serve the country in the future.
