Shortly after midnight, police, ambulance and rescue services were alerted to the Rosengården area in Helsingborg due to a fire in an apartment.

A police patrol was first on site and came in to help with the evacuation.

- The patrol locates the apartment and goes in to put out the fire, but they do not get proper control so it backed out, says Kim Hild, the police's spokesperson.

The woman carried down

The police then became aware that there was a wheelchair-bound woman on the fifth floor of the house and went up there.

- They carried her down the five stairs that were filled with smoke.

They made a very nice effort, says Kim Hild.

After that, the rescue service was on site and extinguished the fire, which is said to have caused a large amount of smoke.

The police were then taken to hospital for a check-up after inhaling some smoke.

A man was arrested

The fire is believed to have started in a sofa, according to the police and a man in his 25s has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated arson.

- There should be quite a few written at the address and therefore it is classified as a serious arson considering how many people could have been injured if the fire had started, says Kim Hild.
