• Formula 1 Look at Madrid and project an urban race at IFEMA

Formula

1

could return to

Madrid

40 years later.

The Community has taken a step forward so that this idea, which EL MUNDO already reported a year ago, becomes a reality.

The Minister of the Presidency, Enrique López, has sent a letter this Monday to the top leader of the competition,

Stefano Domenicali

, expressing the interest of the region in hosting a Grand Prix, according to

El Confidencial

and sources from the regional government have confirmed this newspaper .

"As you may know, the Community of Madrid is experiencing a

outstanding economic and social development in the Spanish and European context.

We are receiving more and more visitors from all over the world and

sports competitions in the Community of Madrid are becoming more and more prestigious and valued

", reads the letter signed by López, in which he shows the

"commitment"

of the Government of Ayuso with the project and the "willingness to sign the appropriate agreements to promote this race", in addition to accounting for other values of the region suitable for hosting an event of these characteristics.

The counselor, through that same letter, assures the CEO of Formula 1 that "the Government of the Community of Madrid has

the greatest interest

" in making it possible for Madrid to be one of the venues for the world championship.

And the expectations of the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso so that this idea on paper is fulfilled are positive.

EL MUNDO already advanced last June the possibility that Formula 1 projected an

urban circuit in the surroundings of Ifema

, since

Jarama

was long ago far from the required canons.

In fact, F1 envoys came to take photographs, measurements and calculate distances to adjust a track in this area.

The idea that the Grand Prix could take place in

Valdebebas

was also considered at the time .

Now on the table there is also the possibility that the race could take place in Morata de Tajuña, where there is a planned circuit project.

If Formula 1 finally decided to land in Madrid, it would probably be within a few years.

Spain already has

a Grand Prix on the world circuit,

Barcelona, and his contract does not end until 2026.
