The period of promotions occurs in a context of very complicated inflation for purchasing power.
Between rising prices and piling up inventory, merchants fear that few customers will cross their doorsteps.
On the first day of the summer sales, traders are worried.
Will they see hundreds of customers or even more in their store during this time?
Nothing is certain because the purchasing power of the French has weakened.
Behind the closed doors of her ready-to-wear store, "Les Impertinentes", Olivia is busy completing the final preparations before the start of the sales.
For this manager, these are particularly uncertain sales this year because inflation could prevent some customers from taking advantage of this period of promotions.
Buy at heart
"A dress that is 39 euros base price, this little favorite purchase that is not very expensive has become a little more rare during this season", she remarks.
"Inflation has made people think maybe a little bit more."
On the sidewalk opposite, leaning on the counter of her "Capsule" shop, Virginie is also ready to start her sales.
Unlike other shops, she had no supply problems.
“Since we work with small French brands that have their products manufactured not too far away, we had no supply problems,” she underlines.

"We received everything, it doesn't come from very far away so we had fewer problems than those who bring in from China or Asia where it was more complicated and longer," she says.
According to the Alliance du Commerce, it is above all the collections for this fall and this winter that are likely to bear the brunt of the effects of inflation with price increases that could go up to 10% on the shelves.
