  An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred in eastern Afghanistan (32.95 degrees north latitude, 69.48 degrees east longitude) at 4:54 on June 22, Beijing time, with a focal depth of 30 kilometers.

According to a comprehensive local news report by a reporter from China Central Radio and Television Station, the earthquake has killed more than 1,000 people and injured more than 1,500.

Local officials said the death toll could rise.

  In addition to the impact of the earthquake, the current flash floods in many provinces of Afghanistan have blocked traffic and added resistance to rescue efforts.

The acting deputy minister of the Afghan Interim Government's Disaster Management Department, Muslim, announced at a press conference on the 22nd that flash floods in eight provinces caused road closures.

The flash flood has killed 11 people, injured 50 and damaged more than 500 houses.

At the same time, Muslim said that each family with the dead will receive 100,000 Afghanis, and families with the wounded will receive 50,000 Afghanis.

  The acting Prime Minister of Afghanistan's interim government, Hassan Akhund, also called for urgent solutions to the difficulties of the families of the victims at a special cabinet meeting held on the same day.

  Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from the Headquarters that so far no reports of Chinese casualties and property losses have been received.

  At present, the Afghan interim government rescue team has entered the disaster area and successfully transferred many wounded.

An Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said Iran was ready to help Afghanistan.
