How does President Macron intend to regain control after the electoral snub of the legislative elections, which saw the presidential camp lose its absolute majority?

After two days of intense political consultations, the Head of State breaks his silence to address the French, Wednesday June 22 at 8 p.m.

An intervention to follow live on France 24, by clicking on the video player above.

Together!, the alliance formed around the Head of State, obtained at the end of the second round of the legislative elections only 245 deputies, i.e. 44 less than the absolute majority, and will therefore have to either form a coalition government, or obtain a majority on a "case by case" basis to get its bills passed.

The position of the presidential camp is all the more delicate as Les Républicains (LR) and the UDI, its most "natural" allies within the opposition to carry out its program of reforms, including that of the pension system , keep repeating that they do not want to take part in a coalition government when their sixty elected members would be enough to constitute a stable majority.

Blockage in Parliament?

The results of the legislative elections confirmed the rise of Nupes, the left-wing coalition, and the far-right National Rally, two opposition forces determined to block President Macron's economic and social projects as much as possible.

While waiting to see more clearly, Emmanuel Macron refused Tuesday the resignation of the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, and asked him to expedite current affairs, without his retention in office being assured in the medium term.

Time is running out for the President of the Republic, however, if he wants to provide some political clarity before starting a diplomatic marathon on Thursday, which will see him take part in a European Council in Brussels, a G7 summit in Germany, another in NATO in Madrid, then a UN conference in Lisbon.
