In 1985, Madonna traveled to Japan for the first time to promote her second album,
Like a Virgin
.
During the stay, the Japanese photographer Kenji Wakasugi has only 45 minutes to shoot with the young singer for
Playboy
magazine .
A lapse of time finally sufficient to capture the birth of an icon.
The Madonna already masters her image, the intensity of her gaze, the insolence, and the power of her character.
The prints from the series are exhibited for the first time in France, 37 years after the shoot.
The images now take on a whole new dimension with regard to the career of the star, and the evolution of successive fashions.
"I discovered this partially unpublished series thanks to the research work of Nick Groarke, an English publisher who found these images and decided to publish a limited edition book of this session: 'Adore'" explains Julia Gragnon, the manager of the Galerie de l'Instant, in a press release.
Other news, we now know that Madonna will have the honors of a biopic in the cinema in 2023. The American magazine
Variety
recently revealed that it is the young actress Julia Gardner (
Ozark
series ) who will play the Madonna.
