On April 7, when the presidential campaign was in full swing, a group of about ten teenagers had fun tearing up election posters in Blagnac, north-east of Toulouse.

An elderly man, walking out of a nearby store with a cane, berates them.

And he uses his cane to try to disperse them as the youngsters pester him.

A few meters away, a 70-year-old man films the scene.

Until a 22-year-old who hangs out with the teens finds out.

He approaches the pensioner and tries to take his phone from him to delete his video.

But the latter does not let it go and the youngster decides to strike him in the face which makes him fall to the ground.

Still resisting, he was lynched with several blows until the manager of the store intervened by shouting and scared him away.

Identified through video

Supported by the relief, the 70-year-old man was seriously injured in the face to the point of having to undergo an operation and to be prescribed 20 days of ITT.

Aided by images of the victim and video surveillance, national police investigators traced the 22-year-old young man and summoned him on Tuesday.

In police custody, he admitted the facts and indicated that he initially just wanted to delete the video.

He was taken to court for an immediate appearance.
