A massive fire unites the Greek and Turkish Cypriots

A massive fire on the divided island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean has created a rare case of cross-border cooperation between the two islands.

The Greek Cypriot south provided two firefighting planes to the Turkish Cypriots in the north to fight the fires in Mount Pentadactylos.

The United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus, along with Turkey, also contributed aircraft to operations in the north, the official Cyprus News Agency "CNA" reported, quoting the government in Nicosia.

It is noteworthy that the island is divided into a Greek Cypriot part in the south, which is a member of the European Union, and a Turkish Cypriot part in the north since 1974. Only Turkey recognizes it.
