• France Mélenchon's left announces a motion of censure against the Macron government

French Prime Minister

Elisabeth Borne tendered

her resignation to

Emmanuel Macron

after the ruling party lost its legislative majority in Sunday's elections, but the president did not accept it, the French presidency announced on Tuesday.

According to the Elysée Palace, the head of state wants the government to "continue to work and act".

To this end, Macron is going to carry out "the necessary consultations" with other opposition parties to present "constructive solutions".

Borne is going to gather the entire government in Matignon this Tuesday afternoon, in a difficult context for the executive that lost its absolute majority in the Assembly in the legislative elections.

Among the members of the government whose resignation is expected is the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, Amalia de Montchalin, the Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon, and the Secretary of State for the Sea, Justine Benin, the three defeated on Sunday in the second round.
