Doctors warned young people and adolescents against smoking madwakh, after it was scientifically proven that the substance used in it “dizziness” contains high amounts of carcinogens, in addition to chemicals that affect the heart, arteries and nervous system, and cause the lung membranes to rupture.

They confirmed that dokha contains 10 times the carcinogenic substances found in other smoking methods, such as hookah and cigarettes, as well as containing 30 times more nicotine compared to what cigarettes contain, which causes the smoker to become highly addictive, as he receives this percentage in a few seconds.

The president of the Emirates Oncology Society, Professor Humaid bin Harmal Al Shamsi, warned against smoking medwakh, as it has been scientifically proven to contain many health risks, most notably cardiovascular diseases, as well as its effect on the nervous system, and the most dangerous of these symptoms is cancer.

Al Shamsi stated that many smokers mistakenly believe that madwakh is safer and less - in terms of side effects - than other smoking methods, such as cigarettes or shisha, pointing out that there are many local studies that evaluated the contents of the medwakh and its dangers - including a study conducted by the University of Sharjah to measure levels of Nicotine and tar in dizziness with other tobacco products - I found that dokha had significantly higher levels of both.

Al Shamsi said that smoking in all its forms is increasing among young people and adolescents, noting that one study that evaluated the prevalence of dokha smoking among secondary school students in the United Arab Emirates, showed that 39% had smoked tobacco products, 36% had smoked dokha specifically, and 25 % of them are current users of dizziness.

He warned of the danger of dizziness, as it causes many respiratory diseases, the most dangerous of which is lung cancer, in addition to 15 other types of cancer, most notably oral, pharynx, bladder, pancreatic, breast and endometrial cancer in women.

He continued, "One of the most carcinogenic substances is a substance called (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon), which was found in dizziness in more than 10 types, in much higher quantities than a regular cigarette, and it is considered a major cause of lung, skin, bladder, liver and stomach cancers."

He pointed out that dokha is widely spread among young people in the region, although it increases the risks of cardiovascular disease for dokha smokers, and those who smoke it with other types of tobacco.

He added that there are fears of shop owners who sell dokha and dowakh illegally to minors, because the continued use of tobacco by teenagers will lead to a high rate of them.

Al Shamsi stressed the importance of educating male and female students about the dangers of madwakh, and stressed the importance of the family’s role in monitoring its children and guiding them to stay away from all types of smoking.

For his part, the Respiratory Diseases Specialist at Zayed Military Hospital, Dr. Hussein Al-Masabi, said: “Despite the fact that dokha smoking is relatively new compared to other smoking methods, recent scientific studies have proven its danger, as it has been proven that it contains double nicotine levels, which the smoker ingests in A few seconds, which causes severe addiction, in addition to the presence of other carcinogens in much higher rates than those in cigarettes and hookah.”

He stated that the most health risks faced by Madwakh smokers are chronic obstruction of the airways, disruption of the lung immune system, and the occurrence of pneumonia in higher rates.

He added that the majority of Madwakh smokers, who attend chest and respiratory clinics, are young people and adolescents, which threatens that these two groups are exposed to more serious health risks at an earlier age, such as cardiovascular diseases, and cancers of all kinds.

And Dr. Bassam Mahboub, a consultant in chest diseases at the Emirates Medical Association, stated that studies have shown that dizziness contains 30 times more nicotine than regular cigarettes, which causes severe addiction, exposes the user to various types of gum and dental infections, and makes him vulnerable to cancers of the upper respiratory tract at higher rates. .

He stressed that "the medwakh contains harmful substances in much higher proportions than other methods, to the extent that it may rupture the lung membranes, and may cause lung failure, and poses a great danger to the health of its consumers."

According to recent information issued by the World Health Organization, the tobacco industry in the world causes, annually, 8 million deaths, the loss of 600 million trees, 200 thousand hectares of land, 22 billion tons of water, and the emission of 84 million tons of carbon dioxide.

It is worth noting that the United Arab Emirates issued "Federal Law No. 15 on Tobacco Control" in December 2009, making the legal age for buying tobacco (including dizziness) 18 years.

The law also made smoking in cars (with children under 12), houses of worship, university campuses, and health and fitness centers illegal.

A tax was introduced on October 1, 2017, on tobacco products in an attempt to discourage their consumption.
