• Andalusian elections The inability to mobilize the electorate deepens the decline of the PSOE

  • PSOE Lastra does not congratulate Juanma Moreno and says that he has won because of the funds that Sánchez transferred to him to fight the coronavirus

In the national leadership of the PSOE, the desire is to build a wall of sacks of earth that contains the flood caused by the historic blow suffered in the Andalusian elections and prevents Pedro Sánchez from getting his feet wet.

"The results of

Andalusia

cannot be extrapolated," the PSOE charges repeated this Monday for every corner of Spain.

Despite the fact that members of the Executive consider that self-criticism is necessary, "and a lot", the official slogan justifies the poor results -below one million votes and with 30 seats, three less than in 2018- in the inability to mobilize his electorate.

Pedro Sánchez transferred this Monday to his Executive that the Government is “strong and solid” and that “there is a legislature”.

He keeps his course.

In fact, he hopes to change the pace and turn the page with the new anti-crisis decree, for which new measures are already being studied, such as lowering public transport, and the NATO summit.

But in the territories it is noted that the results warn of a "disconnection" with the street while assuming that there is no Sánchez effect: that is, that the regions do not benefit electorally from the government's action in Madrid.

There is no pull.

This Monday in

Ferraz,

Headquarters of the national leadership, the meeting of the Federal Executive Commission lasted longer than usual.

On the table was the analysis of the results of Andalusia, which left the PSOE with its worst historical record and 19 points and 28 seats from the PP.

There were more speaking turns than normal.

The faces, very serious.

In the quote, socialist sources explain that there were different opinions, but that the purpose was to leave behind the importance of the collective project and unity.

However, in the PSOE there is concern.

First, because the belief is already widespread that linking the PP to Vox, appealing to fear of the extreme right to claim the useful vote by presenting itself as the "democratic antidote", does not work.

"That useful vote has gone to the PP and not to the PSOE," they reflect in the party after the elections in Andalusia.

The management, which shuns self-criticism, and even slips that Juanma Moreno had won thanks to the financial resources given by the Government, this Monday finally acknowledged "errors."

“Mistakes have been made.

When the expected results are not achieved, it is necessary to analyze the causes for which they have occurred, take note and ensure that they are not repeated, "explained Felipe Sicilia, spokesman for the Executive.

At the moment, the inability to mobilize their electorate is assumed and they wait for the post-election analyzes to draw more conclusions.

But there is one that is already assumed within the party and in the territories, given the last elections: the Sánchez president of the Government does not present enough pull to boost the party.

Being in La Moncloa does not translate into electoral benefit.

The Government accuses the wear and there is no translation in the sum of votes.

On the contrary.

In the last three elections -

Madrid, Castilla y León

and

Andalusia

-, the Socialists have lost support.

They also did so in

Galicia

and the

Basque Country

in 2020, and improved in

Catalonia

in 2021.

The leadership of the PSOE defends that the former were propitious territories for the PP and that the Socialists have not lost anything since they did not govern.

In the case of Andalusia, it should be remembered that the PSOE was the party that governed the Junta for almost 40 years, until 2018.

When Sánchez arrived at La Moncloa, his strength was above the value of the PSOE brand, but for more than a year, due to the wear and tear suffered by the president and the Government, it is no longer so.

This translates into the fact that the presence of the chief executive or the ministers is not an insurance of sum, of vote attraction.

They know it in La Moncloa and they know it in the territories.

Recover the "illusion"

The PSOE and La Moncloa argue that 19-J were only regional elections, that the action of the Government was not judged.

They do not see the electoral blow as a wake-up call to the Executive, despite the fact that the socialist ministers have deployed an intense electoral agenda and, even, Sánchez came to star in an act escorted by half the Government.

"There's a disconnect with people."

That is an idea that is palpable in the party and that shines through in more than one territory;

the need to recover the "illusion" of the people.

It is considered that either «we do not speak clearly», or «we do not speak about what worries people» or «they are tired of us fighting».

Sánchez already expressed a few days ago that he was fed up with the Podemos clashes because they generate demobilization.

Thus, in the territories, where they consider it necessary for Sánchez to make some gesture or make a move to reactivate the socialists, they are preparing to face the next elections under self-sufficiency, defending their autonomous management in these years.

"We trust that the electorate will value our management," they say from a socialist community.

"In Aragon there is a Government that is meeting expectations," said Javier Lambán, Aragonese president.

"Work to consolidate the change that began in 2015," observed the spokesperson for the Valencian Socialists,

Ana Domínguez,

about her roadmap.
