When the municipal council in Trelleborg debated an item on women's shelters during its meeting on Monday, the municipal politician Sweden Democrat Håkan Lerstorp stepped up to the podium.

"Of course it is sad that women are being abused.

But, my thought is, and I want you to think so too sometimes: What has the woman done, for a man to beat a woman?

That is an important thought ", he said, and also asked the question why there are no men's shelters.

After the party comrade Mathias Andersson (SD) immediately pointed out that the party distances itself from the statement.

On Twitter, the center party's leader Annie Lööf shared a video from the meeting with the comment:

"Do not think like Håkan (SD) does about why men abuse women".

SD: We strongly dissociate ourselves

Sweden Democrats Jimmie Åkesson has commented on the post:

"No, I agree.

Think more like Mathias Andersson (SD) ", he writes and has shared a clip from the same meeting, where Mathias Andersson regrets the statement.

The Sweden Democrats' press manager Oskar Cavalli-Björkman writes in a statement to SVT:

"An extremely distasteful statement.

The party opened an exclusion case immediately.

We strongly dissociate ourselves from this and will follow up the matter promptly. "
