In a report on what the spread of the coronavirus is expected to look like in the future, the Swedish Public Health Agency paints two scenarios.

In both cases, the spread of infection increases in late summer and early autumn.

- But there will be a lower peak in the spread of infection now than what we saw last winter with the omicron variant, says Sara Byfors, head of department at the Swedish Public Health Agency.

In Kalmar County, 35 positive test results were reported for covid-19 last week, which is a small increase compared to the week before.

Four patients with covid-19 are cared for in hospital, but for other conditions.

"Are there special routines"

The assistant infection control doctor in the Kalmar County Region, Per-Åke Jarnheimer, is not worried that it will be as it has been before, but says that if there is an increase, they are prepared.

- We have it in our consciousness and when it comes to healthcare capacity, we now have extensive experience of how we change.

There are special routines.

Prepared for increase

In Kronoberg County, the number of confirmed covid-19 cases has been between 21 and 43 cases per week since week 17. The region sees no increase in recent weeks and currently no patient with covid-19 is cared for in hospital.

And here, too, there is a readiness for increased spread of infection.

- We have always expected an increase in the autumn and are prepared for it.

We're pretty good at covid-19, so we know how to handle it.

There are various established solutions, says assistant infection control doctor Hampus Hjorton.
