China News Agency, Beijing, June 21. Kathmandu news: According to local media reports, the Nepalese cabinet held a meeting on the evening of the 20th and decided not to advance the cooperation between the two countries' armed forces with the United States under the framework of the "State Partnership Program" (SPP). hereinafter referred to as Nimei SPP cooperation).

Rajendra, a cabinet member who attended the meeting, said that the Nepalese cabinet has made the above decision and will immediately inform the US government.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the United States.

Recently, senior US officials such as US Pacific Army Commander Charles Flynn have visited Nepal.

According to the original arrangement, Nepal Army Chief of Staff Sharma and Nepalese Prime Minister Deuba will also visit the United States soon.

Over the past few days, Nepalese domestic public opinion has generated a relatively large wave of opposition to the SPP cooperation between Nepal and the United States.

The SPP cooperation between Nepal and the United States is mainly about the cooperation between the two militaries. According to the existing documents, the US National Guard and the Nepalese Army jointly carry out training and education in the so-called security cooperation and exchanges, humanitarian assistance and disaster prevention and other fields. and exchange activities.

However, mainstream public opinion in Nepal believes that this cooperation is essentially an act of military alliance, which is detrimental to Nepal's existing foreign policy and national interests.

There are also voices pointing out that the Nepalese army sent a letter directly to the US on the SPP cooperation between Nepal and the United States, which is obviously not in line with diplomatic norms.

The International Relations Committee of the House of Representatives of Nepal's Federal Parliament has also repeatedly asked the Prime Minister of Nepal to explain this.

Rajendra said that the Nepalese cabinet meeting believes that it is not good for Nepal to send a letter directly from the Nepalese army to the United States. These tasks should be done by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
