The Swedish Migration Agency's proposal entails a reduction for all municipalities, compared with the scenario presented in April earlier this year.

The authority wants to achieve a more even distribution across the country according to the Mass Refugee Directive and the new regulations that are expected to enter into force on 1 July.

55,000 in need of protection

In total, the Swedish Migration Agency estimates that 55,000 people in need of protection from Ukraine will come to Sweden in 2022, but that 5,000 of them will return during the year.

According to the forecast, a total of 50,000 people in need of protection would then be registered with the Swedish Migration Board by the end of the year.

- We estimate that 23,500 people need help from the municipalities in arranging housing.

Of the others, most are judged to arrange their own accommodation, says Magnus Önnestig, director of the Swedish Migration Agency's national operational department in a press release.

Provides own accommodation

According to statistics from the County Administrative Board in Östergötland, there are currently 1210 registered Ukrainian refugees at the Swedish Migration Board living in the county.

According to the Swedish Migration Agency's figures, only two municipalities in the county have Ukrainian refugees living in facilities - Åtvidaberg and Norrköping.

SVT Öst has met several Ukrainian refugees who came to the county during the year.
