1. Poland calls for more sanctions against Russia

In view of the Russian war of aggression, Poland is in favor of another package of sanctions against Moscow.

The EU foreign ministers are meeting in Luxembourg today.

"Military machine":

Before the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg today, Poland called for further sanctions against Russia.

"We have to keep up the pressure," Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Lukasz Jasina told Welt am Sonntag.

Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz told the newspaper that the sixth package of sanctions "hit Russia hard.

But we haven't been able to sufficiently weaken Putin and his military machine."

Technology

exports: According to Przydacz, a possible seventh package of sanctions could aim to “completely prevent European technology exports to Russia” – including civilian products that can be used militarily.

In addition, the EU must "take stronger action against Russian banks and against Russian propaganda and disinformation channels."

Sixth package of sanctions:

At the beginning of June, the 27 EU countries decided on their sixth package of sanctions against Russia.

Among other things, it provides for an extensive oil embargo.

Sberbank, by far the largest Russian bank, will be excluded from the payment service provider Swift, and several Russian news channels will also be banned in the EU.

2. How Habeck wants to fill the gas storage tanks

The Federal Minister of Economics warns that things could get tight in winter.

His plans for filling the gas storage tanks are not aimed at private consumers, but at industry.

Repurchase:

"Gas consumption must continue to fall, so more gas must be put into storage, otherwise things will get really tight in winter." Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) warned again on Sunday about the situation on the gas market.

The federal government now wants to buy back unused quantities from industry so that the gas can be stored or used where it is needed more urgently.

To this end, companies are to be offered a "balancing energy product" in the summer, which they can use to make unused contingents available to the market.

Credit:

In order to secure the storage of gas, the federal government is providing an additional credit line through the state bank KfW in the amount of 15 billion euros, according to government circles.

The loan is intended to give the so-called market area manager, THE GmbH, the liquidity it needs to buy gas and fill the storage facilities.

The loan is secured by a federal guarantee.

In addition, more coal is to be used instead of gas to produce electricity.

A corresponding law will be discussed in the Bundesrat on July 8th.
