Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne tendered her resignation to President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday morning.

The latter refused it "so that the government can remain on task and act in these days", announced the Elysée on Tuesday morning.

The Head of State will conduct “the necessary political consultations (…) in order to identify possible constructive solutions in the service of the French people”, specified the presidency.

A well-established tradition

It is traditional after the legislative elections that the head of government proposes his resignation.

This approach amounts to a new legitimation of the Prime Minister, immediately reappointed to his post by the President.

On Tuesday, Emmanuel Macron chose the opposite to refuse this ritual resignation, while a tunnel of international obligations is looming for him (European Council, G7, NATO summit) from Thursday.

A parade of ministers

Among the members of the government expected rue de Varenne will include the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion Amélie de Montchalin, the Minister of Health Brigitte Bourguignon, and the Secretary of State for the Sea, Justine Benin, specified the entourage of Elisabeth Borne.

All three beaten on Sunday in the second round of the legislative elections, they will have to leave the government.

The president, who had lunch this Monday with Elisabeth Borne and the tenors of Ensemble!

Edouard Philippe and François Bayrou, took the initiative again in the face of the risks of blocking his reforms in the Assembly, by inviting leaders of political parties.

Six of them will be received successively on Tuesday at the Elysée: Christian Jacob (LR) opened the march at 10:00 a.m., before Olivier Faure at 11:00 a.m., François Bayrou (Modem) at 2:00 p.m., Stanislas Guerini (LREM) at 3:00 p.m., Marine Le Pen (RN) at 5.30 p.m. and Fabien Roussel (PCF) at 6.30 p.m., before other Wednesdays such as the leader of the EELV party Julien Bayou.

The day is going to be long !
