He noted that the authorities of the region are interacting with the federal government on the issue of the cost of transporting goods.

“There is an understanding that we will be able to ensure the equivalence of the cost of rail transit, which we had for these goods until the last weekend, and transit by sea,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Alikhanov also added that Western sanctions aimed at damaging the economy of the Kaliningrad region would not have an effect.

Earlier, Russia strongly protested to EU Ambassador Markus Ederer because of the spread of sanctions on cargo transit to the Kaliningrad region.

On June 17, Lithuanian Railways notified Kaliningrad Railways of the termination of the transit of a number of sanctioned goods.
